Uxbridge, Ontario ... Staycations ... Hey Kids!! ... It's Time For The Annual Huck Finn Youth Fishing Day

Uxbridge, Ontario ... Staycations ...

Hey Kids!! It's Time For The Annual Huck Finn Youth Fishing Day

Ah!! The days of our youth,
the days of building a raft and floating it on the pond in the field, pretending to be Huckleberry Finn, your head filled with dreams of being on the raft as it lazily drifts down the meandering Mississippi River.

Huck Finn and Jim On The Raft

Enjoy a fun filled morning as you reminisce with your children about those carefree days of your youth. Let visions of Mississippi Paddle Wheelers or that home made raft you poled your way across the pond on fill your head as you regale your children with tales of your youth.

Share some of those memories on Sat April 24th. Bring your youngsters out to Elgin pond in Uxbridge and reminisce about those days. Teach your kids the fine art of fishing as you join in this Uxbridge Youth Fishing Event.

Added This Year

an accessible fishing platformthanks to help from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Township of Uxbridge making this event wheel chair accessible.

No Fishing Gear No Problem

There is free fishing rod and reel loaners and free bait.

One of the first things you do is line up for your poles and cup of worms....always a challenge to get the wiggly worms on those little hooks, but there is usually a local celebrity or two that can be coerced into lending a hand, it's all in the fun of the day. This event is well attended by parents, grandparent and plenty of kids, even in the rain the kids excitement is contagious.

This annual Huck Finn Fishing Day event is sponsorsed by local sponsors that include Canadian Tire, Durham Regional Police, The Uxbridge Legion, The Optimists, Ontario Anglers and Hunters Federation , The Township of Uxbridge, The Province of Ontario as well as others. Together they put on a very good day for all participants.

Fish from 10 am to 1 pm
with plenty of fish to be caught.

Don't miss the Huck Finn Parade. Dress up in your best Huck Finn outfit decorate your bike or wagon and join the parade, starting at Elgin park (9:30am).

Have A Great Day

Jo-Anne Smith

paints a picture with her words that touch your very  soul.

If you read no other posts today read her Message That, Sadly, Never Grows Old in its entirety.

When you are finished reread it again for you will see more, understand more, feel more each time you read it.

If you care about the planet on which you live this is well worth the read every word, every single phrase every paragraph every portion of this post.

Grab a box of Kleenex and go and read it now!

For if it does not make you cry out for this earth we live on nothing will.

Truth Or Fiction?

As The Story Goes

You lock your car using the remote on your key chain.  As you walk away you hear your car door unlock.

While traveling, a young man stops at a roadside rest to use the bathroom.  When he comes out to his car less than 4-5 minutes later, someone had gotten into his car and stolen ..... you name it.

Truth Or Fiction??

Is there a device now in use to clone your security code when you lock the doors on your car using your key-chain locking device?

Can they sit a distance away and watch for their next victim knowing you are going inside of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and that they now have a few minutes to get into your car?

There have been emails circulating the Internet now for a couple of years saying this has happened

After reading some of the information found by doing a google search for"keeloq encryption" and a variety of other terms I believe it is possible but not worth the effort as a good car thief can be into any automobile and gone in less than 2 minutes.

When my car was broken into they used a small sledge hammer

Your Car Is Not A Safe Place To Leave Valuables Unattended

Uxbridge, Ontario - Gentlemen - Enter At Your Own Risk

TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!

Uxbridge, Ontario

Gentlemen

Enter At Your Own Risk

For the last two years this event had the ladies lined up around the building waiting patiently to get in.

There was a time when the male members of our species dominated the aisles of this local haunt. It was almost their exclusive domain with little to attract the average female. Over time it has evolved and responded to the market place.

No were not talking about a Chip and Dale event .....

but we are talking about a business that recognizes times have changed and so has who we market to. They recognize that what once worked well is no longer enough. Like today's web savvy real estate professionals they recognize that it is not enough to open a store front do a little newspaper advertising and sit back and wait

They recognize the importance of getting involved in the community and paying back with a variety of programs such as their Huck Finn Youth Fishing Day. They recognize the need for a corporate social conscience.

What Are We Talking About .....

We are talking about Canadian Tire, A store that is holding a Ladies Night Sunday April 18th, 6:30 to 9:30 pm. A store that is bringing CityTV's Frankie Flowers into town to showcase the latest gardening tricks and trends. A store that is providing floor space for special vendor demonstrations and of course there will be lots of free giveaways.

In addition to the free giveaways there will be Prizes, Prizes, Prizes, such as an outdoor furniture package valued at over $1,000, A signed Walter Campbell limited edition framed print and a 1 year full membership at Curveshere in Uxbridge just to name a few.

Recognizing the power of the purse .....

An evening where ladies will take over the aisles once dominated by car parts and accessories in search of "Ladies Only" bargains.

TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!

As I read the promo I realized how much they had changed and how much we have changed in how we reach out to the market place and what the expectations are of those we are trying to reach.

Just as the Real Estate Industry has changed to meet the changing demands of the market place Canadian Tire has evolved from what was predominately an automotive store, where the auto service center and automotive section dominated the store, to today's store where the automotive section occupies less that 1/3 of the retail space, a store that competes in the same market place as Wallmart, Home Depot, and other major retailers.

Uxbridge, Ontario - That Summer - A Play by David French

On Stage Uxbridge is presenting the play That Summer by David French directed by Conrad Boyce

That Summeris a play about two sisters set in the late 1950s, it premiered at the Blyth Festival in 1999

Join "Maggie" as she takes us back to a summer in the late 50's at a lakeside resort here in Ontario where she and her sister Daisy vacationed with their family as it struggled to survive as a family. For her and her sister Daisy, it was a time of awakening and a time of discovery. .....

It's 1990 and Margaret Ryan has returned from Vermont to the Ontario cottage country, where she vacationed with her family. As the narrator Margaret watches Maggie, her younger self, relive the innocence and beauty of that summer. In reliving both the joy of first love and the pain of loss she comes to terms with her past and the summer that marked the end of her innocence.

Enjoy the story of two young girls who fall in love with two local boys. Daisy, on the lookout falls victim of her own confusion. Not even the eccentric neighbour Mrs' Crump, with all her fairy tale spells to help capture the heart, can help Daisy deal with her misadventures. Margaret, bookish and withdrawn, inhabiting a universe defined by poets and novelists, is seduced in spite of herself.

The play takes you back to the heartbreak of a headlong surrender to experience both won and lost in a single day .....

An Easter Musical - Uxbridge Baptist Church

THE EYES OF FAITH

If you are in the Uxbridge area you will not want to miss the musical production of  "The Eyes of Faith" The last time our church preformed this, my little 3 year old granddaughter sat mesmerized throughout the entire performance,  even the little boys wanted to see it again.

Performance Dates:

Saturday, April 3rd at 7 pm

Sunrise Service at sunrise ..... Easter Sunday

One of my favorite services of the year is the sunrise service, where we gather overlooking the valley as  sun peeks over the horizon like a ball of fire. Bundle up warm, because it is always freezing at that time of the morning. Sometimes the cows come up to see what all the fuss is about as they see us and hear our singing.

ecoEnergy Retrofit Program Comes To A Sudden End

Via Marg Scheben-Edey - Collingwood, Ontario (RE/MAX four seasons realty limited):

After allocating an extra $80 million to this popular, energy efficiency retrofit program in the budget on March 4th, the Tory government has suddenly announced yesterday that it has been cancelled without warning.

In a media release this morning, Kerri MacDonald from the Collingwood Environment Network said, "With over 85,000 home retrofits conducted since 2007, this proves that homeowners were willing to make the changes necessary to conserve energy and improve energy efficiency of their homes. The announcement of the end of this program is a real setback for the environment and the economy."

Over the past several years, The Environment Network has helped hundreds of local residents save money and make their homes more energy efficient through the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program. Since the start of the program in 2007, homeowners in the Simcoe County and Muskoka area received over $1 million in direct grants as part of this program.

Homeowners who already had an a pre-retrofit evaluation booked are able to continue with the program, and those who are in the midst of completing retrofits and energy efficient upgrades must complete the work and have their post evaluation by March 11, 2011 to qualify for grants under the program.
